Job Description Summary:

The Polysomnographer / Sleep Tech conducts sleep studies for both adult and pediatric patients, including diagnostic PSG, MSLT, titration studies, and home sleep tests. This role requires competency in staging, scoring, and monitoring sleep-related respiratory and neurological abnormalities using systems such as Alice 6 G3 and ResMed CPAP units . Must have at least 1 year of experience , EPIC proficiency, pediatric exposure, and the ability to manage a 1:2 adult ratio and 1:1 pediatric ratio . First-time travelers are welcome.

Responsibilities:

• Perform comprehensive polysomnographic testing including PSG, MSLT (adult/pediatric), titration studies (CPAP, BiPAP, VPAP, ASV), and home sleep tests.

• Apply electrodes and sensors and ensure proper calibration of Alice 6 G3 and ResMed equipment.

• Score sleep studies according to AASM guidelines, including sleep stages, respiratory events, arousals, hypopneas, and periodic breathing patterns.

• Monitor and document EEG, ECG, End-Tidal CO , oxygen saturation, RIP, respiratory events, and PLMs throughout the study.

• Perform mask fitting (full face, nasal, nasal pillow) and adjust PAP pressures as needed.

• Provide patient education regarding procedures, PAP therapy, and home testing instructions.

• Maintain accurate charting in Epic (required).

• Follow infection control, safety, and patient confidentiality standards.

• Float between like sleep-lab units as needed.

• Work every other weekend per department rotation.

Key Requirements:

• Minimum 1 year of recent experience as a Polysomnographer or Sleep Tech.

• Must have experience with both pediatric and adult sleep studies.

• Patient ratios: 1:2 adults and 1:1 pediatrics .

• Epic charting required.

• First-time travelers accepted.

• Weekends: every other weekend.

• Must float to similar units.

• Pending license not accepted.

• All RTO must be declared at submission.

• Guaranteed hours: facility may call off 1 shift per 2-week pay period .

• Community hospital experience preferred.

• Locals accepted.

Qualifications Education:

• Graduate of a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) approved polysomnography or respiratory care program preferred.

• Additional sleep medicine coursework or clinical training strongly preferred.

Experience:

• Minimum 1 year experience performing polysomnography.

• Required experience in:

  • Pediatric and adult sleep studies

  • MSLT (adult/pediatric)

  • Titration studies (CPAP, BiPAP, VPAP, ASV)

  • PSG scoring and staging

  • Monitoring sleep-related respiratory and neurological data

• Experience in hospital or independent sleep lab settings (preferred).

License:

• RPSGT Required or RRT with SDS Required

• State license Required (No pending licenses accepted)

• BLS Required

Skills: Study Types

Baseline PSG, Adult MSLT, Pediatric MSLT, Home Sleep Tests, Seizure Sleep Studies.

Equipment

Alice* (Alice 6 G3 software), ResMed* CPAP units, respiratory inductance plethysmography (RIP).

Staging & Scoring

PSG scoring, sleep stages, respiratory events, hypopneas, periodic breathing, Cheyne-Stokes, complex sleep apnea, arousal scoring, transient arousals.

Titration

CPAP, BiPAP, VPAP, ASV, supplemental oxygen administration.

Monitoring

ECG, EEG, end-tidal CO , O saturation, PLMs, cardiac abnormalities, PSG waveform monitoring.

Mask Fitting

Full face masks, nasal masks, nasal pillows.

Professional Skills

Infection control, patient education, safety protocols, documentation accuracy.
