As part of a talented, high-performing and diverse team, the Information Technology Specialist I will serve as a Data Protection and Storage Engineer responsible for the operational management of the Department of Water Resources (DWR) and California Natural Resource Agency’s (CNRA) backup/recovery and storage systems.  This includes implementing and operating  the DWR/CNRA backup/recovery and disaster recovery infrastructures in public, private and hybrid cloud environments as well as supporting all remote sites throughout the DWR/CNRA statewide network. This critical position ensures the availability, reliability, scalability and manageability of DWR and CNRA's backup/recovery and data storage environments that support the information technology infrastructure of DWR and CNRA in alignment with the Department’s programs, strategic goals and business objectives.  This position will work closely with other infrastructure teams, engineering architects, business units, outside business partners and vendors to support, administer, and develop enterprise data protection and storage solutions to meet these goals and objectives. Special Requirements

Position requires incumbent to obtain and maintain Standardized Emergency Management System (SEMS) and National Incident Management System (NIMS) certifications.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

The ideal candidate will possess:

1. In-depth expertise in managing enterprise level backup and recovery environments and services with products such as Commvault;
2. Strong knowledge of and experience managing highly available, mission critical storage infrastructures in data center and cloud environments;
3. Storage expertise with products such as Netapp, ONTAP, Pure Storage, Brocade, OCI, VI, Storage as a Service (STaaS), enterprise Storage Area Network (SAN), enterprise Network Attached Storage (NAS), AWS, Azure and VMC;
4. Experience with implementing and supporting disaster recovery solutions for business continuity;
5. Ability to perform enterprise backup and storage capacity planning;
6. Skills to independently troubleshoot and provide support services;
7. Ability to work with other infrastructure teams to resolve production breaks and engineer new solutions;
8. A history of preparing sustainable documentation;
9. Strong organizational, analytical and deductive reasoning skills;
10. A passion for process improvement, problem solving and providing excellent customer service.

Please provide your role, time period, and Department or company where you performed this work.
3. Describe your experience leading a technical team and working with your infrastructure peers in the implementation of a complex project.  Include detailed example(s); describe the platform(s) and your role, including the time-period and Department or company.
4. Describe your methodology in learning a new technology and becoming a subject matter expert in that area.
