Job Description As a researcher at BYU-Idaho's Institutional Research & Assessment Office, you will work closely with colleagues across the university to study the student experience and evaluate institutional programs and initiatives. These research findings guide stakeholders in making better decisions to further BYU-Idaho's mission of building disciples of Jesus Christ.
The primary functions of your role will be a blend of applied mixed-methods research (with an emphasis on qualitative methods) and creative problem-solving. You will design and conduct research studies that examine organizational strategy, the student experience, policy impacts, and more. You will collaborate on projects or committees with other researchers, university employees, and CES colleagues.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience Education: Graduate degree in a related field (anthropology, sociology, program evaluation, instructional technology/design, assessment, measurement, statistics, and so forth).
Experience: Experience designing and conducting research and/or evaluation projects.
Strong experience with qualitative research methods. Experience with quantitative research methods also highly valued but not required.
Skills: - Ability to execute all aspects of an evaluation/research project including different types of projects (i.e., formative, developmental, summative, program, quantitative, qualitative, mixed methods, action research, and so forth). Specifically, for this position, there will be an emphasis on qualitative methods.
- Proficiency in skills and methods common to evaluators and researchers (i.e., survey design, conducting focus groups, qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis, open-text coding techniques, and so forth).
- Proficiency with statistical concepts is valued but not required (such as probability, correlation, regression, confidence intervals, t-tests, ANOVA, chi-square).
- Excellent written and verbal communication: an ability to tell a good story based on evaluation/research findings.
- Strong analytical thinking skills, design thinking, a disposition towards both rigor and creativity in research design.
- Experience with project management and excellent organization skills.
- Ability to provide excellent customer service.
- Experience with the following software tools valued but not required: Qualtrics, Microsoft Excel, any statistical software (R Studio, SPSS, Python, etc.), any data visualization software (Power BI, Tableau, etc.).
- Highly motivated and self-directed.
- Basic understanding of database concepts and principles (extensive knowledge not required).
- Ability to solve complex problems in a team-based approach.

Work Schedule Regular Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Travel: Limited travel may be required.
