Akron General's Rapid Observation Unit is part of the Emergency Department (ED) and provides treatment and evaluation to patients while determining if the patient needs to be admitted to the hospital. As a Patient Care Nursing Assistant on the team, you will perform various tasks, ensuring patients receive frequent attention and observation as needed. This is a hands-on role that requires a present, attentive and patient caregiver who is willing to learn new medical technologies and thrive in a fast-paced environment. On this team, you will gain a wide variety of skills you can use in advanced positions or other departments within the Cleveland Clinic system. **A caregiver in this position works nights from 11:00PM - 7:30AM, including every other weekend and 3 holidays per year.** A caregiver who excels in this role will: + Prepare units, patient rooms and patient beds for receiving patient admission, returning surgical patients, transfers or emergencies. + Provide and document assigned care, such as bathing, changing/refreshing bed linens, dressing/undressing, feeding, etc. + Take and document the patient's temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, weight and height. + Perform treatment procedures, such as venous blood draws, enemas, application of ice and heat packs, non-sterile compresses, skin preps, setting up oxygen equipment, bed scale weights, setting up overhead trapeze and Buck's traction and removing urinary Foley Catheters. + Assist with pre-operative and post-operative care, such as turning and positioning patients with proper body mechanics, applying/utilizing special equipment and ambulating the patient as directed in a safe, prescribed manner. + Assist and accompany patients during admission, transfer and discharge. + Perform hourly safety rounds, anticipate patient needs and respond to patient call lights promptly. + Collect, properly label and transport specimens to proper area. + Document patient care in the electronic medical record. + Complete ongoing competency requirements, education programs and mandatory training to maintain certification and/or licensure. Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: + High School Diploma or GED + Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross upon hire or within new hire period + Prior job or educational experience providing basic computer knowledge and skills + Military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W) or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) will be considered Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: + State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) + One year of recent acute care experience Our caregivers continue to create the best outcomes for our patients across each of our facilities.
