The
Networking Services Specialist provides support on networking, systems, services and cyber security strategies. Provide training and troubleshooting for IU staff; support computers, systems, and managed services for MCIU and its constituent districts.
Qualifications: - Associates degree or equivalent work experience required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Certificate(s) in Computer Science, Information Technology, Networking, Cybersecurity, and/or industry-recognized related areas preferred.
- 1-3 years of experience in any specialized area required as part of the job functions.
- Intermediate knowledge of (includes one or more of the following):
- Various networking operating systems and related networking hardware.
- Network-based applications, remote management software, imaging solutions, and help desk systems.
- General knowledge of:
- Administration in Linux, Microsoft Windows, and virtualization environments.
- Office 365/Azure environments preferred.
- The functionality and support of all deployed operating systems within the Microsoft, Apple, and Google environments.
- Local area networks and wireless systems.
- Practical application of common routed and routing protocols.
- Ability to work as a member of a team, follow directions, and follow through with completed assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work in an environment with frequent interruptions.
- Ability to manage time, meet deadlines, and read and understand highly technical documents.
- Excellent communication skills, organizational skills, and problem-solving skills; ability to use technology to work effectively.
- Valid driver's license and safe driving record without major traffic violations; travel to school buildings as required.
- Original certificates of clearance from the State Police, Child Abuse Registry, and PDE FBI.
Duties & Responsibilities: - Provide networking and system services to clients onsite/remotely within the MCIU services footprint.
- Maintain confidentiality with regard to the information being processed, stored, or accessed by the systems of the MCIU or clients.
- Install, configure, document, maintain, support, and troubleshoot infrastructure and server technology including but not limited to:
- Networking equipment (Routers, Switches, Firewalls, Wireless Access Points, and any other specialty network devices).
- Servers (Virtual and Physical), SANs, and Appliances.
- Present and future client/server operating systems
- Directory Services such as LDAP, Active Directory, Entra, and Google.
- Backup and disaster recovery.
- Monitoring and troubleshooting tools
- Network printers and copiers.
- Assist in supporting current and future server operating system and software application installation and upgrades.
- Maintain and verify backup servers/systems.
- Assist with the management and upgrades of security solutions, including firewall, antivirus, and intrusion detection systems.
- Assist with the management of all network hardware and equipment.
- Assist with network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information.
- Maintain end-user accounts, permissions, and access rights.
- Maintain industry best practices on server, security, backups, and recovery.
- Assist with development, documentation, and training on hardware installation and troubleshooting procedures.
- Support and assist with cybersecurity initiatives for the IU and clients including supporting incident responses.
- Continuously expand upon current skill set by attending required training, keeping up on technology news, and possibly attending relevant conferences, conventions, and/or webinars.
- Provide immediate communications of all issues involving security beaches or breakdowns, in addition to any other areas as defined by the Supervisor of Networking Services.
- Maintain system end-user documentation and business rules.
- Maintain current knowledge and a base understanding of internal and external client systems and new technologies.
- Preserve and maintain good relationships with MCIU and LEAs staff, vendors, and statewide counterparts.
- Provide regular status reports on current projects and initiatives to the Supervisor of Networking Services.
- Project a positive image of the IU and its programs and services.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the OTS Administration Team.
Location: The Montgomery County Intermediate Unit is located in Norristown, PA.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7 hours/day, 12 months (260-262 days/year)
Salary: $30.18/hour - $35.50/hour (T3)
