Job Description

This is a6.25 hours per day 180 days per year 1:1 Paraeducator position with benefits at Columbia Elementary School. Anticipated start date is as soon as possible.


Hours for this position are 8:45 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.


The successful candidate willwork under the direction of the teacher in theclassroom with a student requiring 1:1 support.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience working with school-aged children with special needs especially students on the autism spectrum.

JOB SUMMARY:





Assist the teacher with planning preparation and delivery of a quality instructional program based upon state standards district curriculum and effective instruction for students with diverse learning needs. Supervise students at recess in the cafeteria library assistance for students riding the bus and perform crossing guard duties before and after school. May assist with implementation of special education services for students i.e. IEP goals medical assistance physical support and personal care.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist teacher(s) with the daily supervision of students for the purpose of maintaining and providing a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Under the teachers direction administer multiple student tests collect and maintain diagnostic and test data update student records and assess student progress.
  • Assist teacher(s) with monitoring and managing student behavior and progress; share observations with teacher(s) and other professional staff.
  • Assist teacher(s) with implementation of various strategies to address diverse student needs and support individual educational growth and achievement goals.
  • Provide clerical and general classroom assistance for staff which may include collection and data entry of information correspondence copying filing and preparation of classroom materials.
  • Administer first aid medical assistance physical support and personal care for the purpose of providing appropriate care for ill medically fragile and/or disabled children.
  • Provide physical assistance for students with special needs such as feeding toileting proper lifting and positioning of students in and out of chairs and with adaptive equipment; assist students with the use specific equipment related to their disability (e.g. materials assistive technology visual aids).
  • Track and dispense authorized student medications.
  • Perform crossing guard duties before and after school to supervise and monitor students.
  • Assist with monitoring students in the cafeteria and/or at recess; assist with maintaining a clean and orderly environment for student safety and well-being.
  • Participate in meetings and training for the purpose of sharing information improving the employee skills and knowledge implementing school initiatives and addressing student needs.
  • Comply with District Policies.
  • Maintain consistent presence at assigned work siteand regularly work hours specified.
  • May be subject to reassignment of job duties depending on program building and student needs.
  • Such other related job duties as assigned by supervisor(s).

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications

Skills Knowledge and Abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of math spelling reading grammar and punctuation.
  • Desire and aptitude to work with students.
  • Ability to positively and professionally interact with students supervisors and staff.
  • Ability to work both independently and cooperatively in a team situation.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage student behavior.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail and meet deadlines in an atmosphere of frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to operate or willingness to learn to operate standard classroom equipment.
  • Ability to provide for the physical health and safety needs of students.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide physical assistance for and properly lift students in and out of chairs in accordance with safe lifting requirements and the use of adaptive equipment as required.
  • Knowledge of computer applications used to assist with student learning.
  • Ability to strengthen job-related competencies.

Education/Certification:

  • Be at least eighteen years of age and hold a high school diploma or itsequivalent.
  • Meetoneof the following requirements:
    • Hold an associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university or
    • Have earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at the 100 level or higher at an accredited college or university or
    • Completed an apprenticeship as aparaeducator in a program registered with the Washington State Apprenticeship and Training Council or
    • Received a passing score on one of the followingPESBapproved assessments:
      • ETSParaProAssessment.
      • PearsonsParaprofessionalAssessment.
      • The Master Teacher Training Program.
  • Depending on assignmentmay berequired to complete behaviormodificationprograms including safephysicalrestraining techniques and/or other training as required.
